The other night, on my way home from work, I was in a bad mood and was really annoyed at the sheer number of people that crowded the train. In an attempt to make myself feel better, I told myself:

Look on the bright side. At least they're people, and not zombies.

Being that I'm currently addicted to Christian Bale (mostly as Batman/Bruce Wayne, but other roles are fine, too), I found this hilarious picspam aptly titled "Kermit Bale". What do Christian Bale and Kermit the Frog have in common? More than you might realize...

*****

Also, I saw Terminator Salvation last night, due to aforementioned Christian Bale addiction. )

For all of two and a half weeks, I was completely absorbed with anything related to Daniel Craig. So much so, in fact, that I've written two fics based on his characters.

One Drink
Set after Quantum of Solace, James Bond and Camille Montes.

It's A Date
Set after first Tomb Raider movie, Alex West/Lara Croft.

*****

But, as this past week ends, I've made a sudden switch of focus to Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. There really isn't any connection to Daniel Craig, except for one thing: when I first watched Quantum of Solace, and saw James Bond jumping across fire escapes and running across rooftops, I thought, What, does this guy think he's Batman?!

Last night, I re-watched Quantum of Solace. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the movie (referenced from IMDB):

M: The Americans are going to be none too pleased.
James Bond: I promised them Le Chiffre and they got him.
M: They got his body.
James Bond: Well, if they wanted his soul, they should have made a deal with a priest.

*****

M: When someone says that they have people everywhere, you expect it to be hyperbole. Lots of people say that. Florists use that expression. It doesn't mean that they have people in the bloody room!

*****

Camille: So, what's your interest in Greene?
James Bond: Among other things, he tried to kill a friend of mine.
Camille: A woman?
James Bond: Yes. But it's not what you think.
Camille: Your mother?
James Bond: She likes to think so.

vampire and human romance stereotypes

Why is it always "human girl falls for vampire guy"? And when the reverse happens, "human guy falls for vampire girl", either the human guy is a wuss, or the vampire girl is evil?

Can't it be a badass human guy falling for an equally-kickass-but-good vampire girl? Or how about if it's the human guy who's evil (or at least reformed) and the vampire girl who is good?

Yeah, I don't know where all that came from either. 0_0

the only james bond that blew me away

Daniel Craig is so hot.

Forgive me for being ruled by my hormones at the moment, but that sentence keeps repeating in my head as I'd just now finished watching Tomb Raider on local TV.

I loved Daniel Craig in Quantum of Solace, but that was mostly because of the action scenes he did (first time that any James Bond made me go wow). He looked good, but I wasn't all too concerned with his level of physical attractiveness in that film; the way he moved and basically did anything was already enough sex appeal for me.

It was different in Tomb Raider, where he was absolute eye candy. Angelina Jolie got all the cool action stunts; not that Daniel Craig (as Alex West) didn't do anything. He had his moments: fighting the rock statues that came to life, jumping onto one of the revolving globe-like structures, etc. And then there was the gratuitous shower scene, haha. Switch the genders of Lara Croft and Alex West, and it would be a typical guy movie.

Anyway, did I really just write this post to gush over Daniel Craig?

Well, yeah.

return to online life

So much for posting twice a month, huh?

I skipped right over March and April. Last March, I had very limited personal access to a computer, let alone internet (except at work, but I can't very well post to my blog while at work.) For the month of April, I felt uninspired to write until the last couple of days.

But, several drabbles and ficlets have long been on the back burner since February. I actually wrote them on paper at first. Now they're already posted at my fic journal, [info]kiresa.

This past week, I've been driving myself nuts trying to be inspired by the remainder of the themes I need to write. The problem is, I'm well aware that my getting inspired that way happens only about 25 percent of the time. Usually, I would first think of a fandom and specific character/s, and then write something about them. After the fic is written, that's when I look over the themes and decide which one would fit best. It defeats the purpose of using themes, but at least it fulfills the goal of writing fic.

I've also been addicted to reading Dragon Ball Z fanfic again after watching the DBZ Special, Yo! Goku and His Friends Return. It's absolutely silly, but great for a laugh. ^_^

mr. and mrs. president

[info]hieispike
The other night, when we were watching news clips about US President Obama's inauguration, my mother was surprised when she saw Mr. and Mrs. Obama walking hand in hand during the parade. She said that from what she'd seen from public officials, usually the wife holds on to the husband's arm, at the crook of his elbow. I jokingly told her that the Obama couple are different because they're a younger generation, and less formal. (My own parents are more or less the same age as the Obamas, though.)

Now that I think about it, while seeing the Obamas "holding hands" was kind of cute, it also gave off another kind of vibe. They didn't look like the President and the First Lady, or the President and his wife. The image they presented was that of a partnership, fitting the phrase Mr. and Mrs. President.

I actually felt jealous. It made me want to see such a couple at the head of our own government here in the Philippines. We're going to have presidential elections in 2010, and I can only hope that we'd be able to elect a president who would bring good changes to our country.

It’s only been a little over a week, and already I’m giving up on some of my New Year’s resolutions. I’ve been reading some productivity blogs, and I realized that some of the resolutions I wrote were just ego fodder: stuff that would look good on a resume or would impress people, but that I didn’t truly care about. So I’ve crossed out a few things off that list.

Oh, and I got a haircut today. Nothing fancy, just trimmed to a short chin-length bob (courtesy of Papa). My usual haircut. :)

In fic-related news, I've managed to write two drabbles so far for [info]31_days_exchnge. That leaves 29 to go... until February 19th. I'm going to try to add 2 more by tonight. Good luck to me, eh?

my new year's resolutions for 2009

Happy New Year! :)

The past year was a mix of good and bad. I hope I've learned from my mistakes, though. Also, I never made any goals or New Year's resolutions, so I'm going to rectify that this year:

1. Read three two books a month. At least one Some of which should be nonfiction, and preferably work-related. That's the most I can aim for right now.

2. Post regularly (twice a month) here. I don't want to disappear off the face of LiveJournal. ^_^

3. Start a new blog, which is only for flashfiction. And post weekly on it.
3. Participate in Project Gutenberg, Distributed Proofreaders
. I really hope I can get this done.

4. Learn proofreading. Take a certificate course, if there's an affordable one available. Why? I don't know. Wishful thinking for a career change.

5. Learn a new programming language (preferably Ruby). This is for career improvement, since the change is still wishful thinking.

6. Pass the Sun Certified Java Programmers' exam. This one's a doozy. I'm planning this for the last quarter of the year.

7. Get promoted at work. Another doozy! Also for the last quarter.

8. Set aside money specifically for gift-giving on special occasions. Goodness knows the holidays threw me off-balance this year.

9. Spend more time (but preferably not money!) hanging out with friends. Otherwise, I really will turn into a hermit.

10. Take better care of health by exercising and sleeping properly. This I really need.

*****

Good luck to everyone on your resolutions for 2009! :)

when it comes to twilight
Random

I want to read something… something that, preferably, will not attempt to annihilate my brain. (That is, not related to J2EE design architecture. Don't even ask.) However, I’m unwilling to go through the Twilight series again. And yes, that means that I’ve already read all 4 books. Though by “read”, I mean that I skipped chapters that were focused on only Bella or Edward/Bella.

But I did like some things about Twilight. The Jacob-narrated chapters in Breaking Dawn, for example, were fun to read, with enough sarcasm to satisfy me. I think I would have completely adored Jacob if he had loved Bella as a sister rather than in a romantic way.

I like the Cullen family. Each of their backstories, if explored further, would have made wonderful books on their own. I think that Rosalie and Jasper are the more intriguing characters, while Emmett and Alice have fun personalities. Carlisle is interesting because of his immunity to the smell of blood. As for Esme, I can’t help liking her because I keep imagining her as an adult version of Nunnally vi Britannia (from Code Geass). Edward ranks last for me, though I don’t dislike him entirely. He reminds me of Angel (from the earlier seasons of Buffy) because of his stalkerish behavior.

All the fighting in the Twilight series is either behind the scenes or prevented beforehand, so that reduced my appreciation of it. I know that it’s meant to be a romance, but I never liked Edward/Bella. I would have enjoyed it more if the author had also explored the love stories of Emmett/Rosalie and Jasper/Alice. Heck, even that of Carlisle/Esme. (Or perhaps Jacob/Leah, which I’d been imagining. Let’s just forget about Renesmee.)

As for the movie, I’m a bit curious. Curious enough to watch it when it comes out on DVD, heh.

taking on the challenge of 31 fics

[info]hieispike
I miss writing. It's been months since I last came up with even a halfway decent post, let alone a fic! This must be the worst writer's block I've ever had since I started here on LiveJournal. I don't even understand what brought it on. I mean, back in January, I'd been writing like crazy, churning out fics like... like I was writing for the whole year already. And that would turn out true if I don't break this block before the year ends.

To help myself, nay, force myself to write, I signed up for the [info]31_days Theme Exchange. I even submitted my theme set already! All I have to do now is wait for the theme set assigned to me... and WRITE THIRTY-ONE FICS before February 19th. Wish me luck, hmm? Or better yet, bug me regularly about completing my fics. ^_^

Sally Po (Gundam Wing): She's a calm, levelheaded, and kickass doctor/soldier. Best of all, she won't take any nonsense from Wufei.

Sanosuke Sagara (Rurouni Kenshin): Even though he seems like he's nothing but a brash, noisy freeloader, Sano is a loyal friend (and good comic relief.)

Severus Snape (Harry Potter): His long-standing hatred may have often clouded his ability to be a fair teacher, but when it mattered most, he still saved the child he disliked so much.

Shinji Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion): The first word that comes to mind is "wuss". The second word is "berserker".

Spike a.k.a. William the Bloody (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): I had a long love affair with this snarky vampire, who never failed to amuse me.

One of the local channels (TV 5) is showing the movie "My Stepmother is an Alien". In the movie, Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg of BtVS) plays Dan Ackroyd's daughter, and she was so cute. :)

I also remember Stuart Little 2 being shown a few days ago, and only then did I realize that the father in the Little family is actually Hugh Laurie (Dr. Gregory House). It looked so weird, when I think about how sarcastic House is, the opposite of Stuart Little's dad. :P
